Pope to G8: Against the crisis, invest in human beings and listen to poor countries
In a letter to President Berlusconi, Benedict XVI addresses an appeal to the leaders of the G8 and suggestions to overcome the crisis by investing on education, development aid, debt cancellation. The need to convert development models with ethical values and solidarity. The G8 should be closer to the UN, where the voice of the poor carries equal weight to that of the rich.
Vatican City (AsiaNews) - The solution to the global economic crisis lies in "investing in human beings"; maintaining and even " increasing development aid" to poor countries; ensuring an "ethical value" to technical solutions; listening not only to rich countries with major economic success, but also to those "less developed". This is Benedict XVI’s invitation to the Heads of Government who are to gather in l'Aquila from July 8th to 10th next, in a letter sent to the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
